The Historic Motoring Awards 2022 are now open for entry. The deadline for entries is 31st August 2022.
We're pleased to announce seven new awards this year!
Entry is completely free, and you can enter as many times as you want into different categories.
There are 21 categories available to enter, with the 22nd being the Lifetime Achievement Award. The Lifetime Achievement Award recognises an individual who has performed an outstanding service and accomplishment spanning a career in motoring. This award will be chosen by the Octane team and presented on the evening.
2022 Car of the Year
Every year historic cars come into the public eye for all sorts of reasons. They might feature in a hugely successful film, or have played a role in a major public event. They might have been used to raise significant sums for charity, or have achieved some other form of national or international recognition. They might have emerged from decades in hiding, bringing their fascinating and unique histories into the spotlight with them. All of these are great reasons why a car could be a contender for the Historic Motoring Awards 2022 Car of the Year, and we want your suggestions for cars that should be considered for the ultimate accolade.
Nominations for this category close at the same time as all others, but once those nominations close, a shortlist will be published on this page, and you will then be able to vote for your preferred entry. Uniquely, this category is decided by public vote, so nominate now and don’t forget to come back to see the finalists and cast a vote for your favourite.
We know that many people in the classic car world take superb photos as hobbyists and we would like to acknowledge them with this award. ‘Amateur’ means anyone who has not been paid to work as a photographer or been paid for individual photos and the category is open to everything from events such as Goodwood to photoshoots of individual cars. Photographers must submit a minimum of one and a maximum of five images, along with a description for the image(s) and the winner will be decided by a public vote.
Apprentice of the Year
Open to apprentices within specialist businesses in the classic car world or the schemes and bodies that are helping to train the next generation. One outstanding individual will be rewarded for their skills and dedication.
Bespoke Car of the Year
Best Use of Social Media
The Best Use of Social Media Award recognises outstanding campaigns that leverage social media channels to engage with audiences in new and innovative ways. Successful entries will show the judges how a particular campaign, from a business or individual, has delivered tangible results furthering their brand and increasing engagement and awareness of the historic motoring world.
Classic Car Ambassador of the Year
This award recognises an individual or business from the classic car industry that has embodied the passion, professionalism, integrity, dedication and ‘going the extra mile’ for the international historic motoring world. Nominations for those who have used their status or events to ‘give back’ to the classic car world, or to contribute significantly to charity are especially encouraged.
Club of the Year
The 2022 Club of the Year will be the one that the judges feel has done the most within 12 months to further the cause for its membership or for the international historic motoring movement in general. For example, it might have held a series of exceptionally good events, grown its membership dramatically, or through its members and their cars raised a significant amount for charity.
Concours of the Year
Our judges will not just be looking to automatically reward the glitziest concours, though naturally they are highly regarded, but will be awarding points according to which event best achieves its stated aim and engages its target audience, with bonus points for innovation. The concours must have taken place between 1st July 2021 and 31st August 2022.
Industry Supporter of the Year
The ‘outside world’, in the form of companies, organisations, institutions or individuals whose core business lies away from the international historic car industry – but who still make a major contribution to the industry. The judges are looking for a truly significant contribution made to the international historic car movement in the past 12 months.
This Award recognises the valuable contribution that manufacturers provide to our industry, whether through sponsorship, support, partnerships or events. The winning manufacturer will be the one that can best demonstrate how it benefits the historic motoring community and enables it to thrive.

To be eligible, they must have taken place between 1st July 2021 and 31st August 2022.
Museum or Collection of the Year
The judges are looking for the museum or collection that has really stood out in the past 12 months. It could be a new or revitalised facility, a manufacturer’s heritage fleet or a privately owned collection, as long as it is accessible to the public.
This award is designed to acknowledge the individual whose personal achievement has provided the greatest benefit to the international historic motoring movement within the past 12 months. The winner of this award could be anyone working in the industry; for example, a restorer, club official, motorsport competitor, engineer, event organiser, writer or museum curator.
Whether it be covering historic motorsport or creating the fabulous features in Octane, photography is absolutely integral to capturing the spirit and romance of the classic car world. For the purposes of this award, ‘professional’ means anyone who has in the past year been paid for any photographs that they have taken. Nominations can come from photographers themselves or from readers who have especially enjoyed a photographer’s work and the winner will be decided by a public vote. Please submit between one and five images, along with a description of those image(s).
Publication of the Year
For this award, the judges are looking for a truly outstanding book, film, TV series or DVD published or released between 1st August 2021 and 31st August 2022. It could be an extremely well-researched biography, or a fascinating look at a particular era, marque, company or aspect of automotive history
Restorer of the Year
This award recognises the exceptional work of an individual or company. Self-nomination or nomination by a colleague or owner is welcomed. The restoration can have taken any amount of time, but must have been completed between 1st August 2021 and 31st August 2022. It could be a restoration of particular historical significance, one that has been completed through adversity, finished ahead of schedule, or an entire life's work.

Eligibility includes engine or race-car preparation experts, anyone involved in any of the myriad elements within that, such as coachwork, trim, suspension etc, plus insurers, oil or tyre suppliers, historic car transportation or storage specialists and so on.
